anyone can recommend a good child dentist over here to get a second opinion?my daughter will need a plate fitted into her upper jaw,as it is to narrow and it needs widening, the approximate for that from her dentist is +£4k,so i think it could be an idea to get a second opinion

BC the lady who used to be a school dentist, Linda Norman is now at the Halfway and specialises in children's orthodontics. She did my daughter's brace some years ago and daughter now has beautiful teeth. Prices at Halfway are normally reasonable- might be worth checking. PM me if you want to discuss.

I think they have different charges BC....you could try Helen Fraser at Rue Maze Dental Practice in St Martins. She's brilliant with children, but I have no idea what she would charge for this.

There is a recommended rate for each type of treatment but not all stick to it- they don't have to. The guy on the Bridge, Zietsman, sticks to basic charges as does the Halfway. But Zietsman doesn't specialise in Child dentistry. Both of them are happy to give quotes and when I had a course of expensive work done Zietsman offered me the option of paying in installments.

Our dentist, Mr Brown at the Halfway, referred us to the school dentist service as we couldn't afford it all. They were fantastic with the boys :)

My niece was recently referred to the school dental service via her preschool. If it is a necessary procedure, it might be worth seeing if you can get a referral from her school (The dental service visit all schools).

I wouldn't necessarily take that as being correct BC, some friends of mine qualified and they are both working, own their own house, have no debts etc, although they did have to push the issue quite hard before the States agreed to pay.

Yes a 'friend' of mine gets it free, she works full time etc etc. I would email the states if I was you. Really push it as well. But still go for a second opinion at another dentist too. xx

I will try to speak with school today if they can refer her to the dental service the dentist said its not severe enough to refer her and the service said also very severe cases only are considered .see what school says and then i will call halfway practise.
Called rue le maze in st martins but they refer to a specialist only and he charges £93 just to look and his charges would be higher as he is the best and only one in guernsey allegedly

Definitely worth speaking to the Halfway BC, a few years ago I had to have a crown and was quoted £1,100 by the practice I'd been with since I was a child. I was telling a friend about it and he recommended Peter Brown so I went to see him. Ended up getting the exact same work done for £450, and have used him ever since.

And as I said Linda Norman is now at the Halfway and she is great on children's orthodontics. A very nice down to earth lady too. Also what about your doc? Might he recommend her to school dental services as he knows your situation.

Go and talk to Linda. Sure she won't charge you an arm and a leg for a discussion. My daughter had overcrowded teeth and a severe overbite- as i did when I was young. Mine wasn't treated - people didn't bother so much in those days. As a result I have had to have a lot of dental treatment over the years and still have crooked teeth and a mouthful of crowns and fillings. Daughter has beautiful teeth, thanks to the work that Linda did when she was young. Fortunately then there was a decent school dental service so it didn't cost us too much.
