When I donated I was under the impression that it was for the tsunami survivors in Japan??

No it was to buy shelterboxes to be deployed as the charity needed them..their stocks were decimated by the tsunami!

Hmm, I'm not impressed. I genuinely thought my donation was going to be used immediately for tsunami victims, that was where I wanted my donation to go. There should not have been repeated references with maps showing Japan if there was no intention of 'our' boxes going there. If I'd known they were going to sit on my money for months I wouldn't have donated.

I guess they sit on it to gain interest. I am glad it has gone somewhere they need it, and gone to good use, however I to waas under the impression that it was an URGENT requirement for Japan

I think pages 12 and 13 explain things best.. I know this is a Canadian paper but it is still appropriate.

I'm saddened and surprised at negative comments.

I shall not organise any more fund raising events for this forum.

I'm happy I know where our boxes actually went. They have been true to their word and have told us when our boxes went out.

I am delighted that the money we gave was put to best use .. the charity knows how to use it the best.

Maisie Dont get so defensive, its not personal. I think people expected things to happen much faster and the charity to not sit on the money for so long.

What with 'I shall not organize any more fund raising events for this forum'. thats a bit of a silly attitude I think, dont you?

Maisie, you did a brilliant job and helped everyone raise a huge amount. Well done! I think we all just assumed the shelter boxes would be used straight away, especially because of the time we were donating.

They are still being used in areas that need them, which is brilliant.

The charity are not sitting on money, these boxes have to be made up and then they ship them to holding centres around the world ready to be deployed.

Fine. well if I have a silly attitude, it's mine to have. My time and my effort is finite. I'll do what I feel is most useful with it.

maisie, please don't be like this,i'm sure the comments where not directed at you, there was just a little misunderstanding maybe, but still the boxes are used and i'm sure they must have had enough for the tsunami victims, otherwise they would have send more.and so the other boxes could be put to a good use and help people elsewhere and they have not been wasted.
i think you did a great job and should not be put of from doing it again, please

well said Bro. I think people were expecting things to happen faster, and were very mislead as to where the boxes were going.

I think the whole defensive attitude is totally unnecessary. People are not getting at you at all. however people here have donated alot of money and should be better informed.

As for not organizing any more fund raising then thats up to you

I wasn't having a personal dig at you MC, but I genuinely thought the money was going to provide shelterboxes for Japan. At the time of the incident I was in touch with somebody in Japan and had assured him that the incident had touched people around the world and had said that even a small place like Guernsey was doing their bit. I now find out months later that this is not the case.
It's a shame but I'm going back to my old way of donating to charity where I don't feel pressured and I know exactly where my cash is going. I really do feel I was duped and I don't expect to have to read some obscure pdf document to find out where the money is going. The situation in Thailand is sad but if the military had spent some money on flood defences instead of political infighting they wouldn't be in the mess they are now.
